PULP creates, presents and educates through physically rigorous, sometimes satirical and almost always indictive theater-like dances. We connect to our community through movement by encouraging individuality and fostering inclusivity.
Since our founding in 2019, PULP has been unraveling learned movement ideas that white formality once instilled in us. We want to grant freedom in the body and mind! Our work digs deep to uncover the honest and unique movement vocabulary that each individual possesses. This is where the beauty lies; in the true nature of human beings. Additionally, PULP presents works that delivers multiple levels of interpretation and meaning to our audiences. We want our work to be relatable, so instead of making linear statements, we ask questions.
PULP has presented work at several Bay Area venues including ODC, Golden Gate Park, Joe Goode, Dance Mission Theater, LevyDANCE, and SAFEhouse Arts. The company has been granted residencies through RAW SAFEhouse Arts and LevySALON. PULP participated by invitation in competitive mentorships through ODC Pilot, Mark Foehringer’s Young Choreographer Forum, and Doug Varone’s DEVICES, from which the company studied and performed in New York City. Since the pandemic, PULP has been teaching online movement classes to stay active and with our community.
